Portraiture is a type of photography that I can really get into. For me it was Richard Avedon's images that truly grabbed my attention, more notably Henry Kissinger and his statement to Avedon of "Be kind to me." that's always stuck with me. The portrait is a powerful thing in what it can convey. I spent years as a news photographer, and everyday I made some type of portrait with a talking head. I never realized in my subconscious that's how I was looking at it, the interview as a portrait. Some of those portraits have had a lasting impact on me. Sure, the interviews where I got to meet someone "remarkable" and famous like Mohamed Ali or Arnold Palmer stand out, but so do the moments with people in their hardest times, in the most tragic of moments. I have always tried to treat the process and the subject with the utmost of respect and dignity. I have a few portraits coming up soon that are personal projects, and I hope to get them up here real soon....
